This was a fun collab between I and VTuber/Streamer DannoGSD. Being in the furry space, I found them in need of a custom speaker system for their suit. Curiously, I’ve never heard of someone who put a speaker system in their suit and I made contact. We had a conversation and after going over the details, and I got to designing. At the end I ended up having built a custom 60W portable wireless speaker harness driving two 15W left/right tweeters and a 30W subwoofer!

On a tight timeline I felt really proud of the work I was able to deliver for such a fun, custom need.

For some technical details, I decided to build the system around a 11.1V 9Ah LiPO RC/drone battery as having such a high power system to be able to run for so long needed a significant power source. The circuitry was originally going to be done via a custom PCB but due to time constraints (making it for MFF) I decided to hand solder all the traces on some blank board. Along with hand making the board, I decided to do the same with the steel faceplate requested from his character design.

I had some trouble with weird interference/EMI issues using off-the-shelf class D amplifier boards from Amazon. In hindsight, the class D amplifiers were going to be noisy just as a result of them having no on-board filtering. I added some LC filters to the outputs of the amplifiers and nearly all the noise/whining was stopped.

For safety I added a 3S battery management system board for overdischarge protection and balanced charging (BMS).

I love to collaborate, and this was by far my favorite electronics project I’ve embarked on and huge thanks to DannoGSD for making it happen.
